Extension Africa

Taking climate smart agricultural practices to rural farmers across Africa

Both supply-side and demand-side constraints affect the functioning and performance of supply chains. These constraints affect availability, accessibility and affordability of product and services in rural areas.

At Extension Africa, our solutions tackles these challenges by making extension services attractive, sustainable and scalable across Africa

Become a Farmer Business Associate (FBA)

Earn an average of $200 monthly

The average extension agent to farmer ratio is around 1:10,000 while over 17 million youths in Africa enter the labour market annually. The current models of extension delivered through public or private systems has proven not to be sustainable with problems of inadequate number and low quality of agents. This has caused stagnant productivity, losses and poor loan repayment for financial institutions, aggregators and investors
Unlocking a sustainable and scalable way to make extension service delivery an inclusive business is a sure way to get our youths and women involved.
We call our extension agents “Farmer Business Associates” for a reason! Our associates are selected from the farming communities, are tech-driven, trained on the best agronomic and business practices, and have a deep understanding of the local context.
While building trust between FBAs and farmers, we are developing a sustainable agency system by transforming extension agents to micro-SMEs, a commission-based model that ensures agents earn higher as the size of their farmers and services offered to these farmers increases. An agent earn an avg. of $200 monthly serving 200 farmers.
Through our rigorous onboarding process, we ensure agents have a minimum of a diploma, attends our trainings and assessment process before engaged as an FBA
FBAs download the FamEX App and registers as an agent. His/her request is validated through our onboarding process. After approval, the agents onboards his/her farmers on the App.

After onboarding of farmers, agents will also ensure financial inclusion of these farmers through BVN registration, account opening with Sterling Bank & other financial transactions requiring POS terminal.

FarmEX pairs agents with supporting vendors within proximity who have also registered. With this pairing, agent can begin providing one-stop services to his/her farmer networks and continue earning commission on services

The average ratio of extension agents to farmers 1:10,000 (i.e, 1 Extension Agent for every 10,000 farmers) is inadequate, leading to low productivity and financial issues. To address this, we have Farmer Business Associates (FBAs) who are trained, tech-driven, and selected from farming communities. By transforming FBAs into micro-SMEs, they earn more as they serve more farmers, promoting sustainable and inclusive extension services.
